Easter Sunday

Although one day feels the same as the next, it did feel like Easter Sunday today. And it is nice to think that we have the day off tomorrow, even if for me Tuesday will be pretty similar to Monday. I have more to write about what this has made me realise about the rhythm of our days and the roles of isolation, but I'll have to write that tomorrow. Right now, I'm feeling a bit too tired, our television is up a bit too loud, and my laptop is on my lap and even if it only gets a little bit warm it heats me up way too much in these menopausal days and I lose my equilibrium. The good news is that I know what I'm going to write about tomorrow which makes tomorrow's writing easy. The End. Or is it?

Blogging Be Back

Introduction I'm trying to stay away from facebook at the moment because it's entirely overwhelming. 1 Partly it's the flood of COVID information, although I'm reasonably good at regulating that. After fifty years of living with myself, many of them spent on the internet, I have learnt to moderate the type and amount of information I take on. I like to be well-informed, to keep reading until I understand, but I do try to stop before I overwhelm myself. 2 Partly it's the ocean of 'how to cope' messages, and the reminders about how privileged we really are. If I see that meme about grandparents being asked to go off to war and me being asked to sit on the couch one more time I think I really will throw my computer out of the window. I know all these things, and I do think perspective is important, but I don't think the constant harking back to some golden age where people just got on with it is helpful. When does distrust become destructive?

In South Australia we've had a few days in a row with no new cases, and several days throughout the last ten days with no new cases, and there's been such a change of mood, it's already hard to remember the sense of uncertainty from only a few weeks ago. I've told my year 12 that I'll leave the decision about going back to school up to him. I feel that I distrust our Prime Minister so completely that I can't be objective about anything he says. So when the Prime Minister is so adamant that schools are safe all I can think is, 'Yeah, nah, no way.' Not that I'm completely wrong for my skepticism. This article articulates my reservations, particularly around whether or not there really is any evidence.
